I remember hearing Aaron Copland once say, "The music itself is warm, and you don’t have to ‘help’ it." Eric doesn’t "help it" - he enhances it, puts the audience in the right ballpark emotionally, but leaves them enough room to have their own experience instead of telling them exactly what to feel. That’s my favorite kind of work, both in acting and in music.

Eric reflects the cowboy life, the land, and the souls of the characters in ways that aren’t redundant. Simply put, Westerns aren’t about big explosions they’re about people, and if you don’t care about the people, you don’t have a movie. When you listen to Eric’s music here, it becomes readily apparent that he clearly understands this.
- Tom Selleck Purchase the Monte Walsh score album here. Director Simon Wincer on the score:Eric Colvin’s evocative music for "Monte Walsh" wonderfully conveys the adventure, romance and camaraderie of cowboy life in late 19th century America. The vibrant orchestrations help draw us headlong into Monte’s vastly changing world. This richly layered and textured score provides "Monte Walsh" the three elements a director looks for from his composer mood, energy and emotion. |
